Internet Activity 6.1

Crime and the media

With reference to Table 6.1 on page 405,  go to Sky News, BBC, ITN or newspaper websites and take any one current media news story relating to crime and deviance, and try to identify all those news values in Table 6.1 that have made the story so newsworthy. Remember, it can be a story relating to any unusual or non-conformist behaviour, and not just criminality of various kinds.

If you are in a class, it may be worth dividing the major stories between you if there is currently more than one story.  Make a note of your findings, linking particular examples of crime or deviance to the particular news values in Table 6.1, and present your findings to the rest of the group.
